A Career Dedicated to Justice

After graduating with Honors from Syracuse University College of Law in 1997, I accepted employment with Rossi, Murnane, Balzano and Hughes, a general practice law firm in Utica, New York. My practice was limited to litigation including domestic relations matters in Family and Supreme Court. It was in those early years of practice that I first saw the many issues facing children as their families cases made their way through the court system.

Wanting to do more to assist and protect children, I accepted employment with the Oneida County District Attorney’s Office in 2001, in the Special Victim’s and Homicide Bureaus. It was important and rewarding work as I was able to give a voice to the “smallest voices among us” by prosecuting crimes against children, crimes of domestic violence, sexually based crimes and violent crimes including homicide. I was especially proud to have successfully prosecuted the first case in Oneida County history for predatory sexual assault against a child.

In 2009, my wife Lisa, son Doug III, daughter Caroline and I relocated to Syracuse, New York necessitating my leaving the Oneida County District Attorney’s Office. I thereafter joined the Madison County District Attorney’s Office prosecuting crimes in the Special Victim’s Bureau. That same year I decided to open my own law practice dedicated to assisting children and families.  I completed the training and joined the Fourth Department Attorney for the Child Program where I provided low-cost legal services to hundreds of children in crisis, who themselves and/or their families were involved in Family, Supreme or Integrated Domestic Violence Court litigation.

After accruing thirteen years experience as a trial lawyer handling some of the most difficult cases possible, I decided it was time to serve our community in a different capacity.  In 2010, I successfully ran for Judge in the Town of Cicero following a heavily contested race against a well liked and respected sitting Judge.  I was honored to have the Republican and Conservative Party nominations and equally proud to be endorsed by the Onondaga County Veteran’s Party.  I have enjoyed the endorsement of each of those parties in my subsequent judicial races in 2014, 2018 and 2022.In late 2021, I made the difficult decision to close my law practice and accept employment as a Court Attorney in Onondaga County Family Court. As a Court Attorney I have been called upon to provide legal advice and assistance to Family Court Judges and Supreme Court Justices alike on a host of matters involving children and families.

On May 6th, 2023 I announced my candidacy to succeed retiring Hon. Michele Pirro Bailey, for whom I then worked on the Onondaga County Family Court Bench. My time with Judge Pirro Bailey was brief but the lessons I learned were invaluable. I ask for your support and your vote. I have spent my entire career in the service of children and families and believe my experience best qualifies me to make a meaningful impact on the lives of the children and families of Onondaga County. Please vote for Doug DeMarche Jr. on November 7
